Lectionary #451. Scripture reflection for Wednesday of 25th week, Sept. 24, 2008
119:29.72.89.101.104.163. Lectionary #451:
Surely from time to time you have felt and been moved by the word of
God in the liturgy. God's words jump with life and shake us out of our
boredom or annui. Action usually follows when we take God's word seriously
and make it a part of our life. Maybe we should do this each day so as to
be motivated by the highest motivator--God. We are all missionaries; we are
all apostles for the Lord. Jesus' words to his apostles are kept alive and
jumping when we put them into action. God wants us to let the word shine
through our lives and when we are transparent to what is read and
assimilated in our hearts, we then can become messengers or apostles of the
Good News. We do not focus on ourselves but on the messages and
suggestions of the Psalmist, the Wisdom writer of Proverbs, and on Jesus.
The Gospel tells us we are to heal the afflicted and to overcome
demons (anger, addictions, jealousy) and to cure all diseases. Proverbs
speaks of the words of God and tells us to be truthful and obedient to what
we learn from God through the readings. "Add nothing to God's words, lest
he reprove you, and you be exposed as a deceiver." In recalling
yesterday's thought about not putting our light under a bushel basket we
join the Psalmist in singing our response, "Your word, O Lord is a lamp for
my feet."
By pondering over the revelatory words of God we are able to go forth
and bring good news to those whom we work with or to our own family
members. In this way we really become missionaries and apostles of the
Lord. We can think of the powerful expression about the word of God in
Hebrews :"For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any
two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing assunder of soul and spirit,
and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of
the heart." (Hebrews 4:12). Amen.
