20 women die each year from using contraceptives

According to the French National Agency for the Safety of Medicines and Health Products (02/04/2013), 20 women in France die each year from using third- and fourth-generation contraceptives, and 2,529 thromboembolisms occur as a side effect of these forms of birth control.

15.5% of women suffer from infertility in the United States

An off-debated issue concerning assisted reproduction is the correct identification of infertile couples. A couple is thought to be infertile when they are unable to become pregnant after one year of unprotected sexual intercourse. In a recent study (Fertil Steril 99; 1324-1331, 2013), it is estimated that 15.5% of women suffer from infertility in the United States (95% CI 8.6-27.5).

How long leftover human embryos?

An off-posed question is how long leftover human embryos resulting from in vitro fertilisation processes can be cryopreserved for use as research material. Pruksananonda et al. (Bio Research Open Access, 166-173, 2012) showed that useful embryonic cell lines can be derived for research aims using embryos that had been cryopreserved for 18 years.
